Our Programs

Capacity Building

We support all partnering community based organizations to meet the challenges and reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS and poverty by mobilizing grassroots organization to collectively address these issues. Orphan Support Africa's guiding principle is in empowering rural Africa at the very grassroots level. Our strength is in recognizing that rural communities have the capability and strength to come together to address issues of poverty and HIV/AIDS. Our fundamental aim is to ensure and facilitate community participation & mobilization, build leadership, human resources development, strengthen organizational and financial capacity. We recognize that the rural poor need adequate access to resources and continued support through skill development. We are proud to support and strengthen women and youth-led grassroots groups. Through this continuing process of opportunities and participation in decision making and sustainable development initiatives, all stakeholders participate- local authorities, non-governmental organizations and of course the local grassroots organizations themselves.

Early Childhood Education

We are working with community based childcare centers to support initiatives to improve early childhood education. We faciliate the communities efforts to overcome lack of resources, inequitable access to services, and provide greater incentives for early childhood education personnel. Poverty and high prevalence of HIV/AIDS make the region particularly vulnerable and obstruct the building of a sustainable, quality early childhood provision.

HIV/AIDS

We support community action to reduce the impact and spread of HIV/AIDS. OSA places special emphasis in working with youth groups in education and advocacy initiatives. The HIV/AIDS epidemic is threatening to wipe out decades of investments in education and in human development, in large parts of sub-Saharan Africa.

Poverty Relief

We support communities in identifying low cost, easily replicable and easily managed Income Generating Projects such as communal gardening, food security/production, animal husbandry, crop farming and small business/enterprise development. We place special emphasis on projects lead and managed by women and youth-led groups. Orphan Support Africa partners with community based organizations to develop local economies and to establish effective Income Generating Projects with a view to making communities self-reliant and their livelihoods more sustainable.

Sustainable Development and Conservation

We place very strong emphasis on supporting all our partner community based organizations to achieve self reliance by implementing safe and environment friendly sustainable development projects. We strongly believe that the causes of poverty, HIV/AIDS and environmental degradation are cross cutting and inter-related issues. Local resources need to be protected through conservation and poverty relief efforts. As a result we approach sustainable development with the understanding that issues of poverty, development, gender, children and the environment are all inter-related.
